Facts about Napping

Those who associate napping with being lazy could not be any farther from the truth. There is nothing wrong with napping, as sleep has been proven in numerous studies to be restorative for both the mind and body. You're not going to be productive when you're tired anyway, and a quick 'power' nap is sometimes all you need in order to revive yourself and tackle any challenges that lie ahead. Here are some facts about napping to think about next time you are feeling guilty about putting your head down for a snooze.

All you need is 15 to 30 minutes. In the time that it would take to go out and get a cup of coffee, you could be taking advantage of an effective nap. It's amazing to think that a sleep cycle only takes such a short amount of time, but it does.

But an hour is better. Some say going past 30 minutes will bring about a deeper level of sleep that can then result in grogginess. But one hour can also have greater effects when it comes to refreshing your mind and body. But don't go any longer, because then you'll just be sleeping.

A nap will revitalize your mind. Increasing cognitive functions, improving your reaction time and enhancing your memory are just a few things that naps will help with. You won't fall asleep during crucial moments at work or play either.

It will reduce stress. Lack of sleep causes mood swings and the inability to cope with difficult events in a positive manner. The stress that builds during a day can make staying awake a chore - so why not sleep it off and wake up with a better mindset?

It will heal your body. Strenuous physical activity, digesting a big meal or dealing with lack of sleep can take a lot out of you. By napping, you allow your body to start the process of cell repair, hormonal maintenance and even reducing the risk of heart attacks.

You can nap anywhere. Within reason, of course. If you are feeling tired and have the opportunity to lie down, sit back or put your head down, then it is best to take the opportunity to do so. Just remember to do it safely and without risking the welfare of those around you.

Now enjoy your nap!
