Mattress Sizes in Inches

While there are countless mattresses for sale, built out of varying materials like Tempurpedic memory foam, and offering a wealth of options, one thing remains constant for all brands – mattress size. No matter what your personal tastes are, there are only a handful of sizes to choose from, and each one will correspond with your body type, the number of people who will be sleeping on bed and size of the bedroom. What is right for you? This handy mattress size guide will help you determine your needs.

TWIN size beds, also known as single beds, are the smallest size mattress that is geared for adults. This is sufficient for one person, but it may not be ideal for two, considering that half the width is equivalent to the width of a baby’s crib. However, it is also easy to manage and takes up minimal space in any room. Go for a long twin size for taller sleepers.

For Quick Measure: 39” x 75” (standard twin mattress) or 39” x 80” (long twin mattress). Ideal for one adult or for a child, and is a good option for guest or dorm rooms.

FULL size beds, or double beds, is one of the most common mattresses being sold today, as it offers lots of space for one, and just enough room for two people. If you are looking for a starter mattress, this may be the most cost efficient for its size. But while it may be a perfect fit for smaller apartments, it can also be a bit too short for taller people, and doesn’t come in a longer size.

For Quick Measure: 54” x 75”. Best for couples looking for their first mattress, modestly sized bedrooms and/or homes, or as a guest bed.

QUEEN size mattresses are highly desirable master bedroom mattresses, as they maximize personal space without taking up the entire room. Two people can easily sleep on a Queen mattress and have some (but not an excessive amount of) personal space. In some cases though, these are often too big for some smaller homes and apartments.

For Quick Measure: 60” x 80”. Excellent for couples, good value, but might be slightly large for smaller rooms.

A KING mattress is, simply put, considerable. Measuring almost twice as wide as a twin mattress, and the widest mattress available, there is exceptional breathing room for two sleepers who require the utmost personal space. A California King mattress is a bit longer, but is not as wide, and ideal for those who are of above average height. The comfort factor is undeniable, but it will cost both money and lots of physical room space.

For Quick Measure: 76” x 80” (King Mattress) or 72 x 84” (California King Mattress). Both are excellent for two sleepers and recommended for larger bedrooms.
